I want my art to re-interpret and explain the world around us with colour, composition and light. I seek to illuminate the emotion and find the vibrancy in my subject, be it a landscape, person or flower.
My history with art began in my childhood, when I sketched my favourite cartoon characters. As I grew, I drew inspiration from nature, sketching and painting animals, people and landscapes.
I have a vast collection of photographs and other images that I have acquired through life. I like to re-interpret them from time to time. I also like to paint from life when possible. Ultimately, my art studio is my sanctuary.
From birth I have been colour-challenged, which has posed a number of difficulties for me as an artist, but I also believe that it allows me to see the world in a unique way. When I observe anything that I want to paint, I look long and hard to capture the essence of the subject. I love the challenge and I constantly seek to improve my work through contact with the art world and other artists.
I am inspired by the great Impressionists but I also have an appreciation for the Abstract.
I have had great mentors - Tibor Murany and Peter Gonzales here in Australia. I've also attended some fantastic workshops such as those by the talented Herman Pekel and John Shields.
Art isn't just about preserving the old, it is about venturing into the new.
It's the journey of a lifetime.
